From Vision to Reality:
The Birth of
MusicTechSF

Empowering Students Through Music and Technology at June Jordan School for Equity

Our Beginning at June Jordan School for Equity
MusicTechSF was born from a vision to empower marginalized students with the skills and tools needed to succeed in the music industry.
Our journey began at the June Jordan School for Equity, a school known for its commitment to social justice and educational equity. Facing budget cuts and a lack of district support, we took it upon ourselves to bring this program to life, addressing the urgent needs of students living in the throes of financial hardships and aggressive gentrification.
"MusicTechSF gave me the confidence to pursue my passion for music. It was the first time I felt like I could have a future in the industry."
– Ernesto H.

Empowering Through Education
At the heart of MusicTechSF were our carefully designed programs aimed at providing students with hands-on experience in music production and technology. We introduced the Music Production and Technology Career Pathway, a curriculum that spanned across all four high school grades, offering both beginners and advanced learners the chance to explore their creativity and technical skills.
Students participated in Recording Engineering Workshops, where they learned the intricacies of sound engineering, and took part in our Hip-Hop Education and Equity Program, which highlighted the cultural significance and social impact of hip-hop.

-
In our first year alone, over 50 students participated in our workshops and career pathway programs.
-
Student engagement in arts and technology increased by 90% compared to previous years.
-
Recognized by local organizations for our commitment to education and equity.
